Hi, All roles within the Army are capable of deployment on operations. However, not all roles are always needed. If you do get sent to war or on an operation it is usually only for six months with a two week rest and recuperation leave(holiday).
When deployed on operations, you will work with a huge variety of skilled soldiers. Some job roles are on the front line and some are further away from the teeth end of the fighting. Everyone's role is important and needs to be carried out to their fullest, in order for the Army's intent to be achieved.

What are the chances of getting sent to a conflict and making contact with the enemy, I am asking this because I Want to join the infantry and I’m not sure if I will be waiting for something that won’t come if that makes sense. Thanks !

Hi there,
The primary function of the British Army is to protect the United Kingdom’s interests at home and abroad, providing a safe and secure environment in which all British citizens can live and prosper. This requires us to deploy overseas and there are very few roles within the Army which do not require deployment. If you are a deep specialist in IT or cyber then there may be UK based roles which do not require deployment open to you.
If you feel that deployments may not be for you, then perhaps consider a role in the Reserves where you can control if and when you deploy.
As Tom says above, at present we generally deploy for between 4-9 months on operations, with a period of rest in the middle (depending how long you have been deployed).
It isn’t really possible to say how often these deployments will come around as it is totally reactive to what is happening in the world around us. My advice would be to work out what role and trade you want to do, then look on the Army website at those Regiments and see what sort of deployments they have been involved in recently. Tasks rotate between all units so people don’t get burnt out and get a work/life balance, but tasks will always keep coming around.
