The best advice i was given while on the train to pirbright was when you get to the station , give your service number in two groups of 4.
Try get your Cat B driving licence before you start training, this will just help you move about easier in the early days you will have alot kit, also when you get to Phase 2 and 3 training you will be fast tracked to HGV etc. driving cost money so you will be hanging around waiting for it easier if you do it yourself be proactive.
Fitness is a big part of army life so goto the Gym do some sort of basic rountine even if its walking around the block get the pulse rate going, Again it will just make service life so much easier if you fit.

What do you like about your job and the company?
I enjoy coming to work even thought we work 12 hour shifts days and nights 4 on 4 off, because of the people i work with, we are all ex miliarty the work ethnic is there and the comadarie is still there, we can all talk openly about previous experience with no come backs. Most inportantly because I do this role it allows the unit to deploy and react to any given threat home or aboard, and allows the field army to deploy with more troops as they are not being held back doing security duties on site.
I have always enjoyed army life the last few years everything that we used to complain about as improved massively, we get well paid well above the national avarage. the food is all pay as you dine so like going to a restaurant. The Accomandation once in unit is all single person rooms on suit bathroom to a good standard.
Greatest achievements
I was a member of the trails team that setup the Bath and Laudary det the new equipment helping to design and squaddie sproof the cheap plastic that was being used.
each new unit cost half million pounds each. This role i did as a Pioneer while posted to 9 Regt RLC.
Passing Infantry Training Centre Catterick this was very hard physical course again this role i did as a Pioneer one of the last to go through Catterick.
One of the career highlights is receiving my LSGC Long Service Good Conduct medal for 15 years service.

Take it slow, understand what you want to do and the process involved, seize opportunities when you can! This can be a lifestyle not just a job.

I left school with decent grades, and was a CNC Programmer before i joined the Army at 25. I could of carried on down the engineering side of things in the Army, but that isn't what I wanted to do. I wanted to join the Royal Artillery and work with the firepower that it offers. If you join the Army in a job role that you don't like or enjoy you will hate it and want to do something else. There are 200 jobs in the Army meaning there is something out there for you. You just need to apply yourself.

I loved being a Tank Commander, i worked alongside some of the best people in the Army. That community is why i joined the Royal Tank Regiment. I was surrounded by people who i liked and allowed me to be myself. Although i have changed path in the Army i always have my Regimental family to return to. They form the foundation of my new skillset and taught me lessons that make me successful today.
