In Barracks and on some deployments, soldiers usually eat in the Regimental restaurant (cookhouse) where there is a good variety of food available including healthy options.
When soldiers are deployed in areas without a regimental restaurant, ration packs are used. When possible RLC chefs are deployed with a field kitchen with a mixture of ration packs and fresh food to provide nutritionally balanced and tasty food options. Soldiers who are deployed remotely or away from base (eg on patrol) use 24 hour ration packs which contain meals, snacks and drinks to last 24 hours. There are a large number of menu choices for 24 hour ration packs including menus that cater for such dietary requirements as vegetarian and Halal. My favourite main meal is the Lamb Rogan Josh!
