Tori C.
Regimental Medical Officer
Hello,
The career pathway for MOs is roughly as follows.
FY1
FY2
3 years as a GDMO, this will include the following;
Short Commissioning Course at RMAS
Post Graduate Medical Officers course (previously 5 months, but likely to become modular in future)
Working as a GDMO in the UK and abroad.
In your final year as a GDMO you will be given a list of the available specialty training jobs in the Army and invited to apply. Successful applicants will then apply to train via the national system and must benchmark. Occasionally decisions regarding jobs will not be made until after the national benchmarking exams/interviews so that candidates scores may be taken into account. You may apply for more than one specialty, you can also simultaneously apply for an NHS training post so that you have a job to go to should you be unsuccessful in gaining a military training post.
Start specialty training - most programmes will follow a similar set up to the NHS training programmes.
I hope that helps, let me know if you have any more questions.
