What is the pay like in basic training (14 weeks) and what is the pay on phase 2 and also how long is phase 2?

From day 1 of basic training you will be paid an annual rate of £18,687. After initial training you will be paid an annual rate of £23,496 (some roles actually get more than this!).

Each year you will receive an annual review to ensure that you’re able to progress through the ranks – and this means that you’ll unlock higher pay as you progress.

At present (April 24) the Army is also offering people joining as full time Chefs or Petroleum Operators an extra £6,500. Talk to your recruiter to find out if you qualify for this if you are interested.

Training at Phase 2 is role specific so it will depend which trade you decide to take up. Generally the training will range from 15-27 weeks.

But basic is 3 months not 12 so it's 18 into 3 months or.... Sorry for the stupid question

Phase 1 (basic training) is 13 weeks long, and Phase 2 (Initial Trade Training) ranges from 15-27 weeks depending on the trade you choose.

These combined are classed as ‘Initial Training’ and until you have completed these you cannot be fully employed by the Army and therefore receive the lower rate of pay of £18,678. However long you are in Initial Training you will receive this rate of pay (monthly pay would be £18,678 / 12, minus tax and deductibles).

Once you have completed your Initial Training and are considered a trained soldier and fully employable within the Army you will move to the higher rate of pay of £23,496.
