Civilian to Army Commando

I joined the army in 2018 qualifying as a Military Personnel Administrator. During my service I have been attached to specialist units such as Aviation Technicians and Commandos, whilst having the opportunity to travel abroad on deployments and even playing football. I am now part of the AGC Corps Engagement Team where I travel the UK, and go to schools, colleges and community events. The key part of the role is to engage with the public to spread awareness about our job roles.

I am a corporal in the AGC Corps Engagement Team

I am currently one of six Corporals assigned to the AGC Corps Engagement Team. We travel across the UK attending recruitment/engagement events at schools, colleges, universities, county shows and many other public engagement events. As a team it is our role to bolster recruitment and increase public awareness about our corps and the variety of opportunities a career in the AGC can offer.

Self improvement and career progression is what motivates me most!

I joined the Army with a number of career aspirations and year by year I am achieving at least one. I am motivated by improving myself and the AGC (SPS) has provided me with a variety of opportunities to do so; deployments, representative football, arduous courses and roles away from the desk have all been available to me and I've taken those opportunities with both hands.

Strive to be the best and always set yourself a goal.

The Army can be a competitive but fair environment, in order to succeed you should want to be the best you can be and set yourself new goals every time you achieve one. Throughout my career healthy competition amongst my peers has enabled me be the best I can be whether it be on PT, Exercise or even day to day working.

Completing the 30 miler, becoming an Army Commando.

Being a Military Personnel Administrator does not restrict you to a career of just sitting behind a desk, There are so many opportunities available to you and you can be attached to any unit in the Army, anywhere in the UK and the wider globe. I had the opportunity to serve alongside 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery, my main goal upon my arrival there was to attempt & complete the All Arms Commando Course earning my green beret and commando status. The course was 16 weeks long including the pre-conditioning course and required every bit of my physical & mental robustness! The sense of pride and achievement after completing the Commando Course is like nothing I have ever experienced, being able to serve at a Commando unit having completed their course really made me feel like part of the family. It's safe to say that this is definitely my greatest achievement and the defining part of my Army career to date.
