Officer Commanding British Army Band Sandhurst

Hi there, thanks so much for your question.

As British Army musicians our primary role is music, so this is what we spend most of our time doing. This involves a huge range of musical support to Defence, including performing in national State Ceremonial events like Trooping the Colour; playing at events for the wider Army like graduation parades, medal ceremonies or social occasions; conducting engagements in the wider community in support of Defence's interests such as local festivals or education projects; and achieving positive influence overseas with high profile international tours and musical training teams.

We do also have a secondary role though, which is supporting deployed Army medicine alongside the Army Medical Services. At the moment this means we do some routine training which involves working on chemical decontamination procedures in case of an incident where we could offer extra personnel and expertise. Additionally we are on stand by for tasks in the UK, and recently this has included helping at mobile testing and vaccination centres as part of the COVID-19 response.

If a career in the Royal Corps of Army Music interests you then please do get in touch with our Corps Engagement Team. You can email them at [email protected], or get in touch by following this link and completing their enquiry form: https://forms.gle/hth5FLA9hD43HXYz7.
