I don't think any of the volunteer insiders are Chefs, and I'm not a Chef myself, but in my experience of working with many of them, most seem to enjoy it.
Routinely, you're up earlier or later than other trades because you're preparing breakfast or washing down from the evening meal. Training must be pretty good because menus from RLC Chefs are always way better than anything we get from civilian contractors on camp. I've also seen them build improvised kitchens and given bizarre ingredients and still prepare amazing food.
Chef training is done at Worthy Down where, among other things, they do their 15 week Food Services Class 3 course where they learn to comply with health & safety requirements and operate in both permanent kitchens and field kitchens.
If you haven't done already, it's worth looking for content on RLC Chefs on social media, and the army jobs website.

It's also worth noting that if you apply to join as a Chef now, there's a £6,500 bonus.
I hope that helps to answer your question!

I agree with Steven, I am not a Chef myself but after working closely with many of them for 15 years, the impression I have gained is that being a Chef is a very rewarding job. The training RLC Chefs receive is top notch, whether you have Chef experience or not you will learn a wealth of new skills.
RLC Chefs are required pretty much anywhere the British Army is operating so the options for postings and travel are amazing.
No formal qualifications are required for entry into the Chef role and like Steven said there is a £6500 Financial incentive paid on completion of your Chef training.
