I started as a combat engineer and now I am a military lead recruiter.
From 2015-2019 I was a Combat Engineer Section Commander Instructor at 3 Royal School of Military Engineer Regiment. This was my favourite job to date as it taught me about how to nurture, coach and mentor individuals.
My most recent role was looking after a team of professional engineers in a specialist fuels infrastructure team, specifically welders and design draughtsmen.
I am the Military Lead Recruiter at Sheffield Army Careers Centre.
My role is to manage the military side of Sheffield Army Careers Centre, working alongside our Capita partners. As part of my role it is my responsibility to engage locally with schools, colleges and universities to explore potential recruitment opportunities.
Engaging with the local schools.
I have been enjoying networking with the local education providers. It is good to be the lead responsible for ensuring youngsters have an understanding of what a career in the military looks like. I also like working alongside the Capita staff. It is a nice change to be working in a mixed environment of civilians and military.
Regardless of your interests there is a career in the military for you
When I decided to join the Army. I was a fully qualified Fabricator / Welder. I decided to join the Royal Engineers as this trade. Because I was already qualified, I was able to fast track a large majority of my trade training. With this I was not only able to get to my first unit quicker but I also got a financial bonus. In my career I have held two fabricator / welder related posts, so have had the opportunity to remain current and competent in my trade.
Meeting the Queen.
in 2016, whilst I was at 3 Royal School Of Military Engineering Regiment (RSME), I was given the opportunity to give a presentation to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II during her visit to 1 RSME. I briefed her on how the training methodology of 3 RSME had changed to fall in line with today's technological society. It was amazing to meet her and something I will never forget.
