Thanks for your question Officers don’t stand on sentry boxes, they take a role of guard commander. Yes your correct, officers use swords on ceremonial and during any drill. The rifles you see being carried by any soldiers during drill are fully functional rifles, the only difference between those and ones uses on the range are 2 plastic covers that cover the stock and the sight. J
