In short, I would highly recommend any of the Cadet organisations (I was a Sea Cadet). Even if you don't join the military, it will help develop you as an individual and you will make loads of friends in the process. For someone interested in a career in the services, it will give you great knowledge as well as a good insight into what it's all about.
Go for it, what have you got to loose?
