I’m aware of early starts, 0600 etc, but at what time can I expect the day to end? And what freedoms would I have after that time?

Good Morning and thanks for your question.

To be honest, the timings of each day can change a huge amount whilst in basic training. It depends on what you are doing for that day and what stage you are at.

Some days you will find yourself starting work at around 0800hrs after having breakfast and having your first parade. Other days you might find yourself starting earlier or later in order to complete the necessary tasks of the day. This can also be said for the end of the day too, you will always be given your 3 core meals during the day and your training will be structured around this. Most of the time once you have had your evening meal, the rest of the evening will be yours for personal admin and anything else which needs doing.

You can also be given time to use your phone and speak to relatives of an evening and have some down time, which is incredibly important in the high intensity which can occur in Basic Training.

Basic Training is very busy. There's a lot which needs to be completed, lessons you will need to learn and you will need to learn to live, eat and breathe Army. For this period. it will be your main focus in order to establish yourself as a professional and competent soldier, allowing you to do your job effectively and safely.

Because of all this, you will need to remain flexible and adhere to the changes in timings that might take place. All whilst absorbing all of the information given to you.

As your training progresses, you will be given more time to yourself along with more responsibilities and more opportunities for independence.

Do remember that this is not the case when you have completed your training. There will be a lot more structure in your working day and you will have a lot more freedom and maintain a healthy work/life balance.

I hope this answers your question and if you would like to know anything else then please don't hesitate to ask.
