Good morning,

Just a quick one...have you thought about the Officer route? You don't need a degree to go this way and by having a degree already fairly safe to say you'd meet that part of the eligibility requirement. And this sort of degree no doubt would've involved in-depth planning and execution elements which would benefit you during your training. Food for thought...

Thank you! I have had a look at it . Is it a case of doing your training then getting assigned to a certain reg or do you go in there with an idea where you would like to be ?

That's absolutely it. Your training as an Officer is the same for each Cadet (Officer in training) during their time as Sandhurst. But at certain times you will have the opportunity to speak to different Corps/Regiments to see which one interests you the most be it Infantry, Intelligence Corps, Parachute Regiment, Royal Engineers etc, etc and tell your Chain of Command (CoC) where you would like to go (1st, 2nd and 3rd preference). Nothing is set in stone, but they will always try to put people where they want to be if they can.

You sound like you have a decent head on your shoulders so definitely give it some thought. The Army always needs good Soldiers, and thus always needs good Officers to lead them.

Think about some of these principles:

L - Lead by example

E - Encourage thinking

A - Apply reward and discipline

D - Demand high performance

E - Encourage confidence in the team

R - Recognise individual strengths and weaknesses

S - Strive for team goals

These are not just for Officers but all Soldiers in the British Army. However, this will be drummed into you from day one in Sandhurst if you choose that route 😁
