Additional information

Can you branch off in to specialist roles upon completion of phase 2 training or is there a larger time investment required? Before branching out into close protection for example?

AGC (RMP) Corps Engagement Team

Upon completion of Trade training (phase 2) you will be posted to your first unit where you will have to complete your Apprenticeship in Policing which could take up to two years. Certain specialist roles will require a larger time investment such as Special Investigation Branch (SIB), however you can do detachments with SIB Units to gain some experience whilst you are a Junior NCO before potentially taking that route, that's one example of many.

As for CP, you will need to pass the Close Protection Course. The course is physically demanding and is approximately 8 weeks long, anybody who joins the Royal Military Police can apply for the course and you may well be told that you will have to finish your Apprenticeship in policing before attempting. This is not always the case though, I know colleagues that have been given the chance to attend earlier.

If you have passed the Course you can be expected to deploy worldwide on operations, which could mean being away from your Unit for up to year (6 months tour, 6 months training and leave). You will always be a Royal Military Police Soldier/Officer in Unit never a 'Close Protection Specialist' but can be posted to the Close Protection Unit where you could be an instructor and part of the training team.

Hope this helps.
