What is it like being a parachute regiment officer compared to an enlisted person?

To decide whether to join as an officer or soldier you need to decide what you want from the job day to day. You’ll also need to look and check that you meet the entrance requirements as they are different for officers and soldiers.

As an officer you'll find yourself in a management and leadership role, with a team of soldiers working for you from the start. You'll combine your leadership skills with your subject knowledge to make sure that your team works efficiently and as well as they can. You’ll be responsible for devising plans and issuing orders and direction, from day to day activities, to battles on operations.

As a soldier you’ll become the subject matter expert in whichever trade you decide to pursue, it’s less about the management of others and more about the trade. In the parachute regiment the soldiers are the ones that close with and engage the enemy, although the officers will be on the ground with you they are normally a tactical bound behind.
