James A.

Reconnaissance Platoon soldier

Hi Jason, There are several combat roles all with different day to day programmes and forecast of events. Most combat roles I would expect to conduct some sort of fitness on a daily basis along with training appropriate to an upcoming exercise or operation or general combat training including navigation, ranges etc. It could either be a steady week or an extremely busy week, it does balance out. Sometimes it’s nice to have a busy period as time flies when your on your feet. When in barracks you can expect to be finished working by 1600 and the evening is your own! Hope this helps J

Infantry Officer

Hi Jason, We use Warrior armoured vehicles in the Royal Welsh. So as well as the usual day to day activities of ranges, physical training and basic Infantry soldiering. We would normally spend some time learning to drive and maintain these vehicles; as well as getting to grips with the 30mm cannon and chaingun fitted to the turret! Let us know if you want to know more.

Royal Armoured Corps Recruiting

Hi Jason, The Royal Armoured Corps use a range of armoured fighting vehicles from our Main Battle Tank (Challenger 2) to the wheeled Jackal 2 reconnaissance platform. As an RAC soldier your days in barracks will be spent maintaining your vehicle platform, staying fit with your colleagues and preparing for training exercises or overseas deployments. When not in camp you could find yourself on live fire ranges or on exercise in the UK or abroad. I hope that helps. You can find out about the RAC here; https://www.army.mod.uk/who-we-are/corps-regiments-and-units/royal-armoured-corps/ Ross
