Paratrooper R.
Paratrooper
I wanted to to join the Parachute Regiment for the challenge and sense of pride. I was 23 when I joined and did my research. Me personally, I knew that if I was going to join the Army in an infantry role, it was Paras or nothing! Whether initial requirements to get in have been eased is debatable, but 'P Company' remains the same that it has always been. I wanted to be on top and knew the physical standards meant so much more than just being fit. Having the drive to push yourself to the limits physically, relates in a combat zone to mental and physical robustness, sheer determination and drive and the competitiveness to better yourself in all areas as a soldier, which in my eyes would have kept the paras at the top of the game. What that all means to me now is, a unit that can go far and stay operationally effective for the longest time possible, regardless of hostility, weather, terrain and potentially with limited support/equipment available and do the best job possible.
