I know this is unusual, but could I apply with my middle name, and use it as my first in the music services?

Hi there, thanks for your question and happy new year!
I'd recommend you discuss this type of specific query with an Army Recruiting Centre specialist.
During training you would routinely be called Recruit 'Surname', so it's not often that your first name, or middle name would be used, unless amongst friends or other members of your section/platoon. Informally, and when you have finished training, you would certainly be able to ask colleagues in Army music, and the wider Army, to use your middle name as your preferred name - that wouldn't cause an issue it all. However, I suspect the Army will likely require that you apply officially with the full name that is formally on your birth certificate in the first instance.
I hope that helps?
