Additional information

I did want to become a surgeon, but giving up my life to not see my kids and work 80 hour weeks isnt what i want to do. I dont know how my parents would take it if i told them this but my options i am considering for the moment is either being in the Army as an officer/medical officer or becoming a paramedic. Any insight on how long each stage of becoming a medical officer would take would be nice and any other info please.

Hello Joe,

Regular soldier here, and whilst I can’t offer any first hand experience on joining as an Officer, I’d like to bring your attention to a couple of things that may help you on your journey and answer part of your question.
Firstly, Officer training at RMAS is 44 weeks.
Do plenty of research into your chosen role. The army jobs page is a really good tool for this.
As you’re looking a job in medical field, did you know that the Army offer a Medical Services Bursary of up to £75k? More details in the link below.
Finally, I always recommend that people talk to their families about why they want to join the Army. It can sound a bit scary at first so its always worth helping people understand what your job will be and why you want to do it.
Good luck on your journey!
