Being a combat soldier is a challenge both mentally and physically, however very rewarding. All the best with you future and remember self discipline is the best form of discipline.

Light-role Infantryman

The British Army's combat role is split into 3 catagories: Infantry, Armoured and Army Air Corps. Although I wouldn't want to give half an answer, I am only able to give an honest insight of my life as an Infantryman. Being an Infantry soldier is the route you will want to take if you are looking to build a career within the British Army as the 'tip of the spear'. This means that you will recieve constant training and mentoring in your physical fitness, mental robustness, marksmanship and as you progress you will go on to specialise in tactics as well as specialst weapons and equipment. When not deployed on operations or exercises, your day to day life will typical consist of physical training in the morning and lessons in the afternoon. You will of course also find yourself on varied courses that can cover weapons, communications, medical training, driver training and of course english, maths and other qualifications that could benefit yourself both outside and within the British Army. While deployed on operations, Infantry typically lead from the front and our roles can be quite diverse. You can find yourself becoming force protection for others, training allied forces in combat skills and drills, patrtolling and if the situation arises, you will engage in combat with enemy forces. This is only a fraction of what to expect but they are the most common in recent years, however I'm sure there is plenty that others could add to this list. I hope this is of some help and please feel free to ask any Infantry specific questions, also don't forget to look for further information in the Armoured and Army Air Corps.

Cody, if your application is in your local armed forces careers office will process it and give you a call. You will be required to get your parental or guardian consent to proceed. Keep active as much as you can during this period, you are in a good position with regards to your age as you can get the application moving early. If you have submitted an application, you should have received and online medical questionnaire on your portal, Make sure your parents are with you when you complete it to help answer medical questions.
