Hello, if you are joining as an adult you don't necessarily need to tell them. However it would be much easier if you had their support, without knowing your family, I cant advise on how to physically tell them. Good luck, and if you need any more help, reach out.

Hi, great question. It's sad that you don't think your family will support you but understandable if they don't fully understand the military and they might think that once you join you won't be going home for a while. May be try to get them to understand the army and the role you want to join. A lot of people have a 'normal' 9-5 type job in the army, some live at home (not 'behind the wire') and go home every night, some are able to go home every weekend. Once you get through Basic Training if you're not on Exercise or on tour your life is very much your own. You could sell it as the Army being the largest apprenticeship provider in the UK - you are going to get a great salary for basically doing an apprenticeship when you first join! There's so many positives and hopefully you being excited about it will make them excited and proud of/for you.
