The time spent away will depend on your role whilst on deployment along with The location and whether your on an overseas exercise or operational tour.

As a rule of thumb, an operational tour is generally anywhere between 4-7 months with a period of leave before, during and post operation.

An overseas exercise again depends on the same factors however they are generally in between 6-12 weeks. For example, an exercise to the jungle is 6-7 weeks and an exercise to the Falkland Islands is 12 weeks.
