Hi,

I am not in the Royal Engineers, so I found and expert and asked your question to her. She answered:

This very much depends on which Regiment you are assigned to and what that Regiment has on their Operational Commitment plot. Every Royal Engineer Soldier is trained as an Infantry Soldier, Combat Engineer and Tradesperson. Day to day in Regiment you will be training for your next commitment. This will always include revision of basic soldiering skills and also Combat Engineers Skills. If you are due to deploy on a Construction exercise or are required for UK operations you may find that you are doing far more training on your trade. Whenever you are deployed on operations or exercise the time is split depending on the requirement. The bottom line is you will get to use all of the trades and skills that you are taught in training.

I hope that helps, there are a few other RE questions on this site too with some feedback if you are interested to hear more.
