Good Morning,
Yes this is something you can do once you are Driver qualified.
DRIVING QUALIFICATIONS PHASE 2 TRAINING.
Once you pass Phase 1, all RLC Recruits go to the Defence School of Transport (DST) in Leconsfield where you will gain your Cat B, HGV licenses and complete the Combat Logistician course, before moving onto specialist trade training or unit. During Phase 2 express your interest in joining the Commando Logistic Regiment (CLR). You do not need to be Commando trained to be posted to CLR, you simply must be a good soldier, It is an immensely proud Sqn.
ALL ARMS COMMANDO COURES.
All new members of the Sqn are encouraged to pass the All Arms Commando Course (AACC) during their time there, having the unique chance to undertake some world class training. The courses lasts for about 13 weeks and is run by the Royal Marines at the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines (CTCRM), Lympstone. Volunteers attend the course, must pass the following tests and more. Wearing boots, trousers and smock, carrying fighting order and personal weapon:
BOTTOM FIELD TESTS.
1. 30 ft (9.1 m) rope climb
2. Bottom Field assault course in under 5 minutes
3. Fireman's carry, over 200m carrying own and colleague's equipment and weapon (combined weight of 62 lb (28 kg)), in 90 seconds
4. Rope Regain, carrying own personnel equipment.
COMMANDO TESTS.
1. 9-Mile Speed March. Completed in 90 minutes whilst carrying fighting order and personal weapon.
2. Endurance course. This is an individual test comprising a challenging 6-mile course whilst carrying 21 lb. The first two miles consist of undulating woodland terrain featuring obstacles such as tunnels, pipes, wading pools and an underwater culvert. The latter four miles remain an obstacle-free metalled road return run back to CTCRM. Candidates are to complete this in 73 minutes. This is followed by a marksmanship test where the candidate must hit 6 out of 10 shots at a target simulating a man at a range of 200 metres.
3. Tarzan assault course. Starting at 1-minute intervals on the Cdo slide (a zip line), this is an individual test that commences with a number of "high aerial apparatuses" followed immediately by the "bottom field assault course", and then finishing with a rope climb up a 30-foot near-vertical wall. It must be completed whilst carrying fighting order and personal weapon in 13 minutes.
4. 30-miler. This is a tactical navigation endurance march to be completed as a syndicate whilst carrying personal load carry equipment, weapon, spare clothing and rations. Candidates must achieve this in 8 hours.
COMMANDO LOGISTIC REGIMENT.
Serving in 3 Commando Brigade is a unique experience, both challenging and rewarding. Most RLC ranks serve at the LS Sqn, which is held permanently on five days’ notice to move as part of the Lead Commando Group (LCG). There are plenty of deployment opportunities, both on ship and overseas every year, with runs ashore all over the world. The Sqn is unique in the RLC as it does not just work alongside the Royal Marines but is integrated within a Royal Marine Regiment. You will be located in Chivenor Barnstaple North Devon near Britain’s best beaches on your doorstep with a variety of world class water sports available to you almost all year round.
MY STORY
For myself serving alongside 3 Commando Brigade was an amazing experience where I completed the AACC and travelled around the world working with different armed forces like US Marine Corp and more, your be working with like mined soldiers upholding the commando spirit with a strong ethos.
