It's always better to be at the bottom of a ladder you wan't to climb, than half way up one you don't. Okay... I promise I won't do anymore cheesy quotes from now on, but it really is true. I've always thought of this, as you can see from the various jobs I've had, I've always been looking for that one job that ticks every box for things you want out of a career. Don't be persuaded into doing a job you're not set on, just because it may result you getting your start date early. Or if you need a qualification for a particular job. Get that qualification! If it means you getting that career/job role that you really want, then go for it. Don't settle for second best.

What do you like about your job and the company?

This has been one of the most rewarding times of my Army career, being able to converse and engage with the general public and (at times) more specifically those who are maybe considering a career in the Armed Forces. Being able to afford them the insight of my journey and how that could possibly help/guide them on theirs.

Greatest achievements

I was extremely proud to be awarded best recruit during my basic training at Pirbright ATC (Army Training Centre). I still remember being told I got the award and all the lads cheered, one of the best moments of my life and one I will never forget. All I really did was apply myself a 100% of the time. Be a good person. Help those if you can, and don't be afraid to ask for help.

Do your research as there are so many jobs in the army. I would also advise candidates to get on top of their fitness - as the fitter you are the easier basic training will be.

I left school with decent grades, and was a CNC Programmer before i joined the Army at 25. I could of carried on down the engineering side of things in the Army, but that isn't what I wanted to do. I wanted to join the Royal Artillery and work with the firepower that it offers. If you join the Army in a job role that you don't like or enjoy you will hate it and want to do something else. There are 200 jobs in the Army meaning there is something out there for you. You just need to apply yourself.
