Hi Chris, Thanks for your question. The Army has a plethora of roles so it is really important to do your research and ascertain which ones appeal most to you. Go to the Army Role Finder and have a look through; https://apply.army.mod.uk/roles Combat units like the infantry and armoured Corps close with and engage the enemy, but most combat support units (like the Artillery and Engineers) have trades which require you to be at the forefront of the battle field carrying out a specialist trade in support of the combat units. Once you have narrowed down where your interests lie and what would suit you feel free to come back and ask us some more questions, or speak to an Army career advisor. Katie

Okay, I recently completed a advanced tactical training course at the Kalah training system. So I kind of know I want to be part of a combat unit. So yes i am unsure how to determine which combat unit infantry or engineer corps would be best suiting for me. I have been through the army role finder and i have added a few to favorites like the paras and the infantry units. I want to be versatile, basically not just one specific role.

Assistant Intelligence Officer

Hello, Chris. I would put the choices down to three categories and pick which one means the most to you. 1. Location - if you want to stay close to were you live, look around and see what Military units are close to were you are. 2. Family/Friends - if you know anyone who is already serving, you might want to join the Unit they are working with, that way you will have a familiar face to work along side. 3. Role - look at what you want to do, whether it's working on your feet so a Light Role would work. Vehicles, then look to the Mechanised roles or the Armoured Roles. Airborne, the Para Regiment or the units that work around them would suit you. Make sure to look very closely to what you want to do so you don't make the wrong choice and end up in a trade that you don't like. Thanks for your question and if you have anymore, please ask away. -Daniel.
