Can you join straight into the material and personnel exploitation (MPE) branch and what are deployments like for them?

The MPE is a capeability that comes under the Intelligence Corps. You would join the Int Corps and then apply for a job with 2 Military Intelligence - the unit who specialises in this work. You can't directly apply to 2MI but if this is the area you want to specialise in, then you need to be direct and upfront about it after basic training / officer training.
