That's an interesting questions Finley. There are currently no plans to create a direct entry route for the PT Corps in the Army. However, you can join as a PTI directly with the RAF and you can apply to become an all-arms PTI in any soldier role in the army when you are due to promote to LCpl, which doesn't take long in some career fields - the Royal Military Police for example.

So I would say, although you can't be a PTI straight out of basic training, you don't have to wait long, and the additional instructor experience you will gain as a soldier will make you a better PTI when you do complete the course.

Hi Josh,

Thank you for you're answering my question. Would I have a good chance of standing out as I do have personal trainer level 3 qualification. Also been doing personal training for around 4 years.

Hey Finley,

That would certainly be a good start and would potentially help you apply for the role. It might also make some elements of the course a little easier if you know how to construct and run a good lesson. The great thing about the army though, is that everyone gets the training they need, no matter what qualifications they are starting with, so you'll definitely gain some new skills on the course, even with your experience.

What role should I chose to go for to get a higher chance of getting in the PTI role. Parachute Regiment?

All roles have an equal opportunity as all units will need PTIs to run their physical training programme. I would say that picking a role that suits you is the most important thing to consider when joining the army, because you will be doing that role more than you are taking physical activity over the course of your career. Being a PTI is a great goal to have and will keep you fit and motivated, but definitely consider what career field is the right one for your skills too.
