James A.
Reconnaissance Platoon soldier
Thanks for your question.
Infantry as a whole, fitness, weapon handling including ranges and navigation are probably the key components of the role. The recce platoon are renowned for being the top soldiers in the the battalion and as you do a lot of your work at night, in smaller teams than your average rifle company platoon, there isn’t room or time for error so the highest standards are required.
No day or week is the same in my role, one day you could be sat in the guardroom of Buckingham palace watching the football and the next you could be sat in a subsurface (underground) OP sketching a picture of potential enemy infrastructure to send back to ground troops
The role itself can be very challenging but also very rewarding knowing the information you relay back to the ground troops has or could have a battle winning effect.
I hope this answers your question
