What is the difference between a doctor and combat medical technician

Hi Clarissa, Thank you for your question. In very basic terms you could think of Doctors the same as those you would find in a hospital or GP surgery, and Combat Medical Technicians (CMT) like paramedics. A Doctor, or Medical Officer as they are called in the Army, is an Officer only role. They are responsible for clinical care, either in a military medical centre (like a GP) or in a hospital. They also provide a link into Regiments giving advice on policy and the management and rehabilitation of soldiers. Combat Medical Technicians are soldiers, they are responsible for: giving first aid on the battlefield; providing medical training to the Army; supplying medical support on all kinds of operations and exercises; helping with medical evacuations in hostile conditions; and providing health education to the Army.
