Chloe, what's it like to be trans in the Army. Hmmm, well it does have it's challenges but I'm finding it isn't that much different from when I wasn't. Now that the novelty of me coming out has passed, most people don't see me any different than anybody else. Also with the current elevation and "normality" of trans people, the younger soldiers don't find it a reason to care.
The main problem I have faced is that nobody knew how to accommodate me respectfully and also keep the other females comfortable with my physiology. The constant update of policy helps signpost the CoC (Chain of Command) with everything they need to prevent to many mistakes from being made.
So what is the best to take away from this is... Have a sense of humour and don't be too serious about the whole situation all the time, be prepared to answer a million questions over and over because squaddies are a curious bunch and finally be yourself and stay confident.
