Hello Chloe. Thank you for your question.
HR Specialist and 'clerk' are the same thing in the Army, HR Specialist is just the correct name for the role. I am a HR Specialist and I would definitely recommend this role. Not only do you get all the perks of the Army such as cheap food and accommodation, free medical and dental care, free access to a gym and fitness lessons and the opportunity to gain further education qualifications, you also have specific benefits to the job. Some of these are posting opportunities because we are attached to every trade in the Army so there is a chance to work in most places of the UK and many countries overseas. You also get to experience the different jobs so you may find yourself working with infantry, engineers, medics etc. so you get to see what everyone does in the Army. Another benefit is the qualifications, after Phase Two training in Winchester, you gain a Level 3 apprenticeship qualification in Business Administration and this is completely paid for by the Army. If you were interested in becoming an accountant, this is something else that our role offers later in your career. Promotion is also very quick in this job compared to other jobs in the Army.
This job does require you to work in an office environment sometimes but you will find yourself out of office frequently taking part in military training, adventure training and sports and taking part in any events that your Regiment may be attending. You manage your own workload and the job comes with a high responsibility but it is so rewarding.
I originally joined the Royal Logistic Corps but decided to transfer to HR Specialist after seeing how good the job is.
I hope you decide to pursue a career in the Adjutant General's Corps, Staff and Personnel Support which is what HR Specialist comes under.
Good Luck!
Zoe
