Hi Newlyn,
Thanks for your question and it’s great to hear that you are interested in joining the Royal Artillery.
You get the opportunity to request to join a specific Gunner regiment whilst you are going through training. For 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery it is really important to make sure you are physically fit and robust. It would be a good idea to do some training before you go to basic training so that you can excel at the fitness and therefore stand more chance at being allowed to give the course a go. It’s also worth starting to practice rope climbing early as it’s a skill you’ll need during the commando course and the technique can be quite tricky to perfect.
Good luck with your training!

Thanks Katie, what other things would you recommend to do as par to rope climbing as there’s not much around my area to do with rope climbing

If you can’t get on a rope just work on your upper body strength; biceps, shoulders, forearms, back, and also abdominals. Then when you’re in training make sure you get into the gym with the PTI to work on the technique.
