Good Morning and thankyou for your question, There are a huge variety of apprenticeships available across the Army, regardless of what job you do. In the Royal Armoured Corps specifically, you can expect to gain engineering and maintenance qualifications from working on armoured fighting vehicles as a start. This will be a part of your initial trade training that encompasses learning to drive and maintain the vehicles specific to your role. Obviously another qualification you will gain for this will be your Driving licences such as Category B, C and H as standard, with scope to pursue even more, all paid for by the army. As you continue your career, you will also be given opportunities to expand your skill set, both in a military capacity and with formal qualifications too. This could be extended engineering/maintenance qualifications if you train as a driving and maintenance instructor, Telecommunications qualifications such as working with fibre optic cable and more, and others in leadership and management too. These will all be free of charge to you, with the training included in your normal working routine, so alot of people find them much easier to achieve compared to the usual qualifications on offer. Further to this, across the army we get access to both Standard Learning Credits (SLC's) and Enhanced Learning Credits (ELC's). SLC's are able to be used annually by serving personnel to complete any course to further their development. This could be something completely different to your normal job role and the amount available will usually be around £175 to put towards it. I have known some serving soldiers whom have completed anything from linguistic courses, to floristry courses and so much more. ELC's are different and can be used to much better effect. After serving 4 Years, you will be eligible for the lower band which will be either £1000 every year for 3 years, or one lump sum of £3000 to put towards a level 3 or higher on the Qualification Credit Framework. If you leave this and choose to use it further down the line, once serving 8 years, those amounts will double in value, so either £2000 per year for 3 years, or £6000 to use for a qualification in the criteria mentioned above. These learning credits and the course you choose to do with them, do not have to fall in line with your current job role either. If you are serving as a Tank Crewman in the Royal Armoured Corps, you will still be able to pursue further education within an entirely different sector such as education, sports or anything else which takes your fancy. To summarise, the army has a vast amount of opportunities available for further education, from some being completed alongside your daily work, and others which you can do in your spare time. I would highly recommend that you look further into these if you get to the stage where you are eligible to make use of them, as they really are an opportunity too good to miss. Hope this helps and best of luck for the future.
