What kind of things do you bring to dorms as a soldier? I don't know how big the dorms are or what to bring.

In Basic Training and Initial Trade Training you won't wont to bring too much as the rooms are shared, just some personal photographs for your board and some books or a laptop for if you have any down-time. When I went through training I found headphones were pretty useful.


Once you're at unit your room is your own living space so whatever you like within reason. Most people have a TV as a minimum. Personally, and like many others, when I was in single accommodation it was my only residence so everything I owned was with me.


One last thing, while similar to the student equivalent, we don't call them "dorms"! The most common types of accommodation in the Army are "Single Living Accommodation" or SLA, known as "the block", and "Service Family Accommodation" or SFA, known as "pads".
