Hi Josh, I'm not an Engineer but I can answer your question in part. All soldiers in the Army go through Phase 1 "basic" training which teaches you how to be a soldier. Regardless of what trade/job you do in the Army, everyone conducts this. This is where you would be taught the basics such as weapon handling/skill at arms, living and fighting in the field and in barracks administration plus plenty more. Once you complete Phase 1, you will then move on to Phase 2 "trade training", which for yourself would be specific to your trade in the Royal Engineers.
