How often can I see my family, friends and girlfriend?

Hi, this is one of our most common questions as people have a misconception that when you're in the army you live in an army camp, behind a wire and never see friend and family again.
The reality is, during basic training 14 weeks you won't see too much of them (definitely not in the first 5 weeks), after that you have long weekends when you can go home.
Once you have finished basic training and trade training (where you have the majority of wknds off), and go to a unit you could be working a 9-5 job so what you do with your evenings and weekends is up to you!
