The army has a pretty good salary - Your pay starts around £16,000pa during Basic Training and rises to around £20,400 after completing 26 weeks’ training or after completing your Initial Trade Training, if less than 26 weeks.
We don't pay into a pension (this is done automatically so this is something you don't have to consider coming out your salary), all medical is covered (ie prescriptions, healthcare (physio etc), opticians, any dentist work etc). If you choose to live in single living military accommodation this is subsidised (ie rent is about £65 a month and that includes utility bills. If you choose to live out (but within 50miles of work) then your travel to work is paid for (ie fuel cost). We also get 6 weeks holiday plus bank hols a year and often an extra few days at the Commanding Officers discretion (ie a long weekend as an example). Hope this helps.
