Hi Kelly,
You'll be delighted to hear, absolutely nothing to pay. In fact, we pay £26,334 per year to each individual who attends.
AFC Harrogate teaches English, Maths, IT. whilst also allowing potential Soldiers to gain a BTEC in public services.
All in conjunction with becoming a fully trained British Soldier at the completion of training.

Ok that is brilliant. Thank you for your reply do I need to purchase any uniform or boots for his course ? He will be 16 on the 20th August 2026

Absolutely not, We will supply everything that he will require.
He'll be able to apply when he is 15 years and 7 months. Provided hes 16 prior to going to AFC Harrogate.
Intakes are every March and September. So He'll be looking at joining the Sept 2026 intake as long as he meets the minimum requirements to get to that point.

My son wants to join the Coldstream guards playing the drum what course will he need to join ? Short or long course

You're welcome.
For all Combat roles and RLC Driver it's the long course.
Everything else is the shorter course due to the longer period of specialist training required for other Apprenticeships/trades.

Coldstream Guards band i believe to be also Machine gunners. Meaning it is a combat role and therefore the longer course.

If they are exactly the same type as the Army issues each of us, then yes.
If not, it's a no i'm afraid.
We live in a very blame game society and to mitigate any injuries we have to wear issued kit only.
Furthermore if your Son gets injured in non issued clothing he will not be insured.
I broke my leg in 2022, If i was wearing any of my own kit at the time of the injury (at work) i would have received no compensation. Fortunately i was and received £10,300.
Of course i hope it never comes to an injury of any sort but it's better to be safe then sorry.
