So most officers will find a specialism and dip in and out of that throughout their career as they go up the ranks. For example I had a specialist logistics role at 17 Port and Maritime Regiment, The Royal Logistic Corps where I learnt the detail of how to manage port operations in warfighting scenarios around the world. I have also done many years of general transport and supply logistics and then specialised again in infrastructure and then catering. I recently switched completely to HR as I find this really interesting.
I have a friend who became an aviation specialist for The Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) but he also worked in general REME roles and with the special forces too.
Your career can be so varied or specialised, it can be really up to you and what interests you as there are so many differing opportunities.
