I wanted to join but I'm not really an active person so I was wondering if it'd be better to start exercising now and then join later?

Good evening,

If i'm being completely transparent, I'm a product of what not to do when i initially started.

When i joined i could barely run, i wasn't strong and in turn not very physically robust. I found it very tough simply because i didn't prepare. What i did have was the mental resilience to persevere, not everyone is so fortunate enough to posses this.

Whilst it is certainly possible to pass with no training prior, as the training staff do an incredible job in improving your fitness. i promise you that you will have a much easier time and enjoy it much more if you turn up with some form of training. Have you searching the Army Fitness App for advice on different things you could incorporate into such training.

Thank you very much for the advice! I've started training recently, but also I know it's a normal feeling but I can't help but feel like I don't have what it takes to do a good job, do you have any tips for this? Or just a way of thinking about it differently?

I'm not "allowed" to advise of particular training you should/could be doing, frustrating i know!

When i joined i wasn't very confident, i wasn't fit. What i did have was the will power to be part of a bigger thing that helps others in so many ways, this was the driving force that got me through. The Army has enabled me to gain such an experience over the years that I'm a shadow of my former self, i'm both confident and extremely physically fit, i ran my first Ultra Marathon 4 years ago , 46 Miles! So have faith in the training is works.

If i had to join again knowing what i know now. I'd run and weight lift. Maybe to the point of a comfortable 3-4 miles running and improving my strength. 😄 Honestly give the Army fitness App a go. It's pretty good if you are looking to improve prior to joining.
